Italian Activities Year 5 & 6 Week 7

Week 7 Italian Activities

As a revision activity I thought that children could look at reciting the  Hail Mary /Ave Maria prayer.

Some of you may still remember it some of you might like to revise it again.  It is a beautiful prayer and one which we can pray together everyday.

I have placed both versions of the prayer one Italian one English.

The prayers are identical so whatever is recited in Italian are the exact words in English.

Perhaps you can find some time to pray with your child during the course of the day.

Your child will be able to read it to you if you are unable to speak Italian.

Children can write the prayer down on a piece of paper learn verse by verse and then create a picture of the Virgin Mary to keep and place in their room to pray every night.

Please feel free to share yourself reciting the prayer you can send it to my via email.  I would love to hear from you!

The next activity I thought would be a good one just for Fun!

Simple Tiramisu recipe

An Italian dessert consisting of layers of sponge cake soaked in coffee and brandy or liquor with powdered chocolate and mascarpone cheese.

Ingredients

1 cup (8floz/225ml) heavy whipping cream

1 cup (8oz/225g) mascarpone cheese, room temperature (see substitute idea below)

1/3 cup (2 1/2 oz/71g) sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon Amaretto liqueur or Brandy (use cranberry juice to make it child friendly)

2 cups (16oz/450ml) espresso or STRONG coffee at room temperature

1 pack Ladyfingers (Boudoir biscuits/Savoiardi. Look for eggless if needed)

Cocoa powder for dusting the top

Instructions

Beat whipping cream, sugar, and vanilla until soft peaks form.

Add in mascarpone cheese and amaretto (if using) and continue to whip to stiff peaks.

Dip ladyfingers in coffee (cranberry or orange juice) and place in an 8×8 pan to make the first layer – you can fit about 7 cookies in each layer. Don’t let them soak as the will fall apart, just a quick dunk in the coffee is enough.

Spread half of the whipped cream mixture on top of the first layer of ladyfingers. Repeat the process with the second layer of ladyfingers and cream mixture.

Dust the top of dessert with cocoa powder using a sieve. Refrigerate for about 2-4 hours (it gets even better in the longer you leave it in the fridge).
