Week 4 Visual Arts activities Year 1

Let’s play the back and forth game!

Before you begin the activity with your child, have a discussion about some of the fun interactive games you (adult) used to play as a child.  List  and discuss them together.  What were some of your family traditions growing up? (adult) What are some of the new traditions have you adopted today? (adult).

This is a back and forth drawing game for kids!

Here is a list of materials you will need for the game:

       * A blank sheet of white paper

  • A couple of different coloured pencils and pens to add to the drawing.

Instructions:

This activity can be played in pairs.  Any more than 2 players can become tricky!

One person starts drawing something simple and quick for example, I might draw a circle or line, a pair of eyes or the outline of a house.

Then take turns adding elements back and forth.  One or two elements are enough, then move to your partner.  Just for something a little different you might want to add speech bubbles, have your characters talk starting dialogue.

As an alternative you can also introduce a game of naughts and crosses.  This is a similar game to the back and forth game!

The above clip is an activity from Mr Maker he is making and creating a pop up birthday card.  You may want to try this with a partner and take it in turns following and listening to instructions.  It follows the same principles as the back and forth game.

Have a go and get creative year 1!

Also please remember to share these pieces with me on-line….. I can’t wait to see them!!!
