Year 6 Week 7 Visual Art Activity

Learning Intention: For students to draw or sketch a famous Australian performer of their choice and discuss their contribution to Australian society.

This weeks Visual Art activity will involve a combination of both Performing Arts, and Visual Arts.  As Year 5 and 6 Students are looking at choosing a famous Australian performer, I thought that as a follow up activity to this, students could draw or sketch this famous performer as their art activity.

Instructions:

Choose one  of the Famous Australian artists that Mrs Penza has on her list of Australian artists.  Then I would like you to attempt to sketch or draw your artist on a piece of white A4 paper.  Make sure you have an image of the performer either on a hard copy piece of paper or an image you have located on the internet. Try to replicate this piece as best you can, remembering to pay close attention to each of their facial features and make them look as realistic as possible.  Also, experiment using different types of sketching pencils eg: HB, 2B for darker shades or simply make do with the pencils you already have in your pencil case or at home.

Here are some examples that I have found.  You may want to choose one of these or one that Mrs Penza has on her list of celebrities.

John Farnham

Guy Sebastian

Olivia Newton John

Casey Donovan

Delta Goodrem

Below is a simple video showing how to sketch the features of a face.  I hope this gives you some guidance on how to begin the portrait of your famous Australian Performer.

Toward the end of session, a brief 5 minute class presentation is to be conducted.  Students to Share with class members their chosen Australian performer, and their contribution to Australian society. (This can be presented however student wishes eg: google slides, poster form, google doc etc).

I am looking forward to seeing the completed portraits of your famous Australian performer.  Please remember to share your pieces with me!

Also, please stay tuned for yet another exciting sketchbook entry!

Looking forward to seeing last weeks entries too!
