Week 9 Timetable

Hello Prep Families,

I hope Prep S children enjoyed our special ‘Magic School Bus’ week and virtual excursions. I hope it was just the week of fun and learning the children needed to reinvigorate themselves as we prepare for the last two weeks of term and the final push to school holidays. The Prep team have received some beautiful emails this week with very kind feedback. It is very much appreciated!

Thank you again for another week. Term 3 is always a time of big developments in the learning of Prep children and it is so lovely to see that this year is no different! Prep teachers are beginning to plan some wonderful learning opportunities for Term 4 and we can’t wait to share these experiences with the children.

Below is the timetable for Week 9, as well as another copy of the 1:1 student/ teacher check-ins timetable. We ask that children are on time but not logged in early so as not disrupt other children’s check-ins. 9am Check-ins will still run next week, as will normal learning presented on the blog space.

Please note Friday 11th September is a Prep “Animal Themed Dress Up day!”. Children can wear an  animal themed costume to their meets and learning on this day. We do stress that it is not necessary to source or make a new costume. Children can bring an animal toy to the meet as an alteranative if they wish.

I wish everyone a wonderful weekend and a Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads.

Kind Regards,

Katrina 🙂

Week 9 One on One student check-ins

Dear Prep S Families,

During Week 9 (Monday 7th Sept- Friday 11th Sept), Prep teachers will be timetabling half hour “check- ins” with each child in lieu of our Reading and Maths focus groups.

We have tried where possible to timetable these check- ins on the same day as your child’s regular reading group. It would be helpful if children could please wear headphones and have their Remote Learning Pack on hand.

Please refer to the timetable below to see your child’s scheduled time slot.

Check- in code is: preps

We kindly ask that children do not log into their meet before scheduled their time, so as not to interrupt the check-in of the child prior.

We look forward to having a chat and a catch up with children!

Kind regards,

Katrina Taylor

Week 7 and 8 messages

Hello Families,

I wanted to start this weekly message by saying a big thank you and well done to each family. This is certainly a very trying and testing time for us all however the Prep S family, of which we are all part of, is doing an amazing job of guiding our children and providing them with wonderful learning opportunities.

As we approach the final weeks of term, Week 8 will be one to reinvigorate Prep children before the final push to holidays. I really appreciate the conversations I have had with some families in the past weeks about how the children are travelling at the moment. As I said last week we always expect motivation levels to wane towards the end of term 3 and especially in the current circumstances. It is wonderful to see Prep S students excitedly sharing their Show and Tell each morning and we are lucky to have some Year 6 children join our morning meets to say hello too. Well done to the children who have started entering the ‘Spoonville’ competition. I love seeing these pictures on Seesaw but please remember to enter you need to follow the procedures on the Art Blog.

I have included next weeks timetable below. Prep teachers are very excited for our ‘Magic School Bus’ week! Children will accompany us on adventures around Victoria and Australia next week as we continue our learning of animals and living things.

For Maths next week children will have the opportunity to create and learn some of their own maths games! We hope children enjoy this and are able to get many hours of enjoyment and learning from their games in the afternoons or weekends!

Finally I wish you all a lovely weekend with some wonderful weather expected.

Kind Regards,

Katrina

Week 7 Timetable and messages

Hello Families,

Below is the Week 7 timetable. Please note we will be having ‘Show and Tell’ in our 9am Google Meets next week. Your child’s ‘Show and Tell’ will be the same as their reading group day. They could bring a favourite toy, a pet, their favourite book, favourite costume or other special item to share. I encourage children to have a think about before the morning what they could say when sharing their special item.

Thank you to all families for helping your child log into all their meets throughout the week. I understand this can be a big task but the children are getting so much out of our time together!

I can’t wait to share a new week of discovery with Prep S!

Have a lovely weekend,

Katrina 🙂

Creation Story

Hello Families,

Today in Prayer, we looked and wondered at an illustration depicting the Creation story. Tomorrow I ask that children bring something from God’s creation with them to our 9am Google Meet. It might be something from the garden or a pet. We will share these in our prayer tomorrow.

Thank you,

Katrina

Wushka

Hello Prep S Families,

Wushka reading boxes have been topped up for another week. This time I have added books in each box rather than replace books. This way children will have more texts to choose from and can revisit their favourite Wushka books. A friendly reminder that Wushka replaces the nightly ‘take home readers’ and it is expected that all Prep children are reading each day, in addition to their daily work. There are quiz’s for each text for children to test their reading comprehension. Just like our regular nightly reading routine, we recommend children read a book more than once, talk about the text to the people in their home, including retelling the characters and events or facts and record their reading in the reading diary. The stickers and milestone awards in this diary help to motivate little readers and help children see their progress over time.

Thank you,

Katrina 🙂

Week 6 Timetables and small groups

Hello Families,

What a wonderful 100 Days of School celebration we had today! It might not have been the 100 days we wanted or hoped for but I hope all the children enjoyed dressing up, dancing and their fun activities. There certainly was much excitement when our packs were opened and our poppers popped! I have posted on Seesaw a short video with some photos of the children’s time at school so far.

Below I have added the timetable for next week, week 6. Over the halfway mark for the term! Without any interruptions reading groups have resumed to their usual days. Next week we introduce small Maths focus groups at 11:30am as well.

I wanted to thank you all for the tremendous effort you are going to to assist with your child’s remote learning. As a parent myself I can appreciate the challenges this time is presenting and the juggle families are managing at home. You are doing an amazing job and the little learners of Prep S are very lucky indeed!

I wish you all a wonderful weekend and wish you a ‘happy 100 days’ as well!

Katrina 🙂

Week 5 Timetable and messages

Hello Prep S Families,

I have updated the timetable for next in the ‘Timetables’ tab and also included it below. Again I have tried to keep the day and time of our small group meets consistent however due to the Prep 100 Days I have made a small change to one group.

Could children please bring their ‘My Time Book’ (made in Writing this week) to our Monday Google Meet.

We have had another wonderful week of learning this week and I am very much looking forward to celebrating the Prep 100 Days with Prep S next Friday. Children should have begun receiving their packs in the mail. We ask that these are kept in a safe place so we can open them together on Friday morning in our Meet. Preps can dress up in ‘party clothes’ for their 100 day celebration, or a costume with a ‘100’ theme if you have something at home. We do stress there is no need to buy anything new or make anything.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend.

Katrina 🙂

5 Star Colouring

Hello Prep Friends!

I love seeing all of your AMAZING work on Seesaw! It makes me so proud to see how much you are learning and how much you are improving all the time.

One area for improvement I have noticed we can all try to work on (even Mrs Taylor!) is our drawing and colouring.

When we add pictures or illustrations to our work we are adding extra details for the people reading our work. Sometimes after we draw a picture it can even help us think of extra things we want to add to our writing!

I have added some pictures below that you can use to help you improve your drawing and colouring. These are us in our classroom as well for when we are back together at school.

I can’t wait to see 5 STAR colouring in our work. It might take some extra time, or even a few go’s to get right, but it is all a part of our learning and making our work WOW Work!

Happy Learning friends!
