IT Update

Firstly, thank you to everyone for your continued patience during this time. The frustration level of this situation is significant, and I know that I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know.

Over the weekend, MACS and Orro made the changes we had requested and as of 8am Monday morning, all looked well – until around 9.10 when connections started to drop. Despite numerous support requests, phone calls, etc to both MACS and Orro, they have not been able to offer us a solution to this situation.

Tony has stated that from what he is seeing on the server, the devices are being assigned IP address as they connect, and everything is working the way it should, however, we know that it is not true. To this end, we have engaged the services of a Network Engineer who will be on site today working with Tony to solve this issue once and for all.

I will keep you all updated during the day as things progress ..

Morning IT Update

A bit of an update for you… it appears that the system is doing what it is supposed to do, however, it is doing this very slowly. Tony is monitoring the traffic on the network and it’s showing that it is renewing IP addresses at a rate of about 2/3 per minute, so it’s slow – slower than we anticipated it would be.

At this point, if you are attempting to get your student’s online, the advice is to open the Chromebook, log in and just let it sit until it is assigned it’s new IP address. This could take anywhere from 10-20 minutes. As I find out more, I will let you all know.

IT Update

Morning all,

Current Situation with the Wifi/Internet Issues

To put it as simply as possible, we have ‘run out’ of IP addresses. The school was originally assigned 1,000 IP addresses way back when it was first built. Fast forward to today and we have over 998 devices currently accessing our network, with each device being allocated a ‘lease’/IP address.

Last week, we applied to MACS to have a new block of 1,000 addresses assigned to the school, and we all know how that went on Friday. After numerous phone calls and some very terse interactions, our system was rolled back to what we thought, were it’s original configurations only to find that wasn’t quite the case. On further investigation and after more very tense phone calls, it was discovered that MACS had changed a setting that they ‘believed’ was incorrect, and hadn’t informed us.

Yesterday, we managed to have that decision reverted and we were able to get the greater percentage of the school back online, except two of our Year 2 classes, who unfortunately, were the first to be impacted by the IP address issue.

While that was great, it hasn’t solved the issue of a lack of IP addresses …… so what’s next…How is This Going to Be Fixed?

We are currently waiting on MACS and Orro (the supplier) to confirm a time frame to re-attempt the allocation of the new range of IP addresses. We have asked that this be completed after 3.30 today. Over the weekend, all devices in the school will be forced to surrender their lease/IP address in preparation for a new allocation on Monday.

While this *should* happen without incident, there is a very real possibility that there could be a repeat of the issues from this week. Tony will be on site Monday to ensure that there is as little disruption as possible to this process, but I cannot guarantee that our internet will be stable on Monday.

What will you need to do?

Before you finish today, I am asking that ALL devices in the school (with the exception of your teacher CB’s) and including your Whiteboard machines, be TURNED OFF. I cannot stress how important this is!!!!

This step is vital in ensuring that all the old IP addresses are offline when the new allocation comes across.

It would probably be wise to have a back up plan in place for Monday *just in case* – ( although I’m sure everyone has already done this after this week 🙁       and then keep your fingers crossed 🤞

Please read…

While restocking the first aid bags it is extremely disappointing to find a number of them in what I can only describe as a foul state!

Can I please remind all staff that it is not appropriate to place rubbish such as used tissues, wrappers and food waste back into the first aid bags. As this has occurred, these bags have become contaminated and therefore ALL contents now need to be discarded. This is such a waste of our resources, both time and money.

It is disappointing as adults that this is occuring. Can we all please consider that other staff will be using these bags post your use and therefore leave them in a fit state.
