Week 1 – 2

Maths

Each day in the classroom we start our Maths lesson with a tools session.  The repetition of these concepts assist them with their Mathematical understandings.  At the beginning of each lesson we will suggest a warm-up to do with the children.

Maths Task 1

Warm-Up: Go outside and bounce your ball counting forwards as high as you can.  Then do the same thing counting backwards from 20.
[Parents: Please emphasise the ‘teen’ numbers and making sure the children are saying ‘teen’ and not ‘ty’ at the end of the teen numbers.]

Learning Intention:I understand that we must count in a sequence from 0-10.
Success criteria: I can count in the correct sequence from 0-10

Task:  Watch the video of Maths lesson focusing on Number Sequencing in Study Ladder.

Then ask Mum or Dad to rule up 3 columns in your exercise book.

Before Number rolled After

Roll a dice 10 times, (we hope you can find one somewhere at home) and each time, write down the number you have rolled and then write what the number before it is and after it is.

Then Mum and Dad can come up with more numbers for you to fill in when you’ve had enough of the dice.

Take a photo of your work and post it on Seesaw.

Maths Task 2

Warm-Up: Sing the days of the week song using the song on the blog to help.
Discuss – What day is it today? What day is it tomorrow? What day was it yesterday?

[Parents: You can refer to the links on the blog under the Numeracy heading to help you remember the songs we have taught the children. ]

Learning Intention:I understand that we must count in a sequence from 0-10.
Success critertia: I can count in the correct sequence from 0-10

Task: Students to click on this link to go to Studyladder and complete 3 tasks:

Counting objects to 10
Number line to 10 (missing mumber in order)
Number line to 10 (missing numbers)

Studyladder allows the teacher to view the child’s work.

Maths Task 3

Warm-Up: Sing the months of the year song using the song on the blog to help.
Discuss – What month are we in at the moment? What was last month? What will next month be?
Talk about what today’s date is?

Learning Intention: I understand that we must count in a sequence from 0-10.
Success critertia: I can count in the correct sequence from 0-10

Let the children have a go at ordering the numbers from 0-10.  You could get the children to reorder numbers you have written or write them on single cards or pieces of paper and get them to rearrange the numbers in the correct sequence from 0-10.

eg.  7    4     6     2     10    9      5      1       3       8        0

In the video, we have a used a number line to assist as a visual tool,  if you can make something like this it will be helpful. If not, using the cards/pieces of paper will also be a great way to embed this learning of sequencing the numbers.
