Social Skills

Social skills are the skills we use everyday to interact and communicate with others. They include verbal and non-verbal communication, such as speech, gesture, facial expression and body language.

Social skills are vital in enabling and maintaining positive interactions with others, with many of these skills being a crucial factor in making and sustaining friendships, and appropriately navigating different social situations that an individual may find themselves in (e.g. those faced at school, in the workplace, etc.).

A lot of social skills we develop naturally through our observations and interactions with those around us as we grow and develop. However some of the social skills that we have acquired may need to be explicitly taught. At SGP we implement social skills and social thinking content as part of our wellbeing lessons, as these are vital components of children’s development, as well as an important contributing factor for their academic success.

On this page each week you will find a different social skills topic for your child to work through, as well as a presentation that outlines an introduction to social skills and social thinking, and what content we will cover over the course of online learning.

We hope you enjoy the activities each week and look forward to working with you 🙂
