What happens if my child has an ‘accident’? (toilet)

While it is expected that all children enrolled for Prep 2024 are fully toilet trained and are capable of looking after their own personal hygiene, however, accidents sometimes happen. School is a very different environment, especially for our students who have spent a lot of time at home.

Teachers will take the children on a ‘school tour’ at the beginning of the year to re-acquaint them with the layout of where the toilets are and will continue to support all of this new learning with prep children for a number of weeks – however, sometimes children are ‘too busy’ to realise that they need to visit the toilet and have soiled themselves.

Our Prep Teachers understand that this happens and are sympathetic in their response to helping your child. They will either send the student to the First Aid Office to change or you may be contacted if it is felt that more attention is needed. Please include a change of underwear and short/skirt and socks in a plastic bag in your child’s school bag – in case of emergency. If you have concerns regarding your child’s ability to self-manage this task, please contact our Learning Diverstiy Leader – Mr Davis Long via email – dlong@stgeorgepreca.catholic.edu.au to discuss their needs further.

Please note that our staff are not permitted under the terms of the Child Safe Policy to undress or attend to a child in our care regarding personal hygiene.
