Year Foundation Week 6 Visual Art Activity

Learning Intention: For students to create a simple autumn tree, using their fingers or thumbs to dot the tree, their focus shall be on the use of primary colours when constructing this piece.

Success Criteria: Students will know they have achieved this goal when, they are able to confidently dot the autumn tree using their fingers and thumbs and identify the primary colours used.

What you need:

  • Poster paint
  • blue card
  • paint brushes

What to do

Paint a tree trunk

Use your fingers to print lots and lots of different coloured autumn leaves all over the tree

Add apples falling from the tree.

Still use your fingers to add grass to the paintings and dot a leaf or two on the grass.

Use gold paint for some of the leaves and this will add a lovely sparkle and sheen to the trees!

Alternatively, you may wish to use your hand as the trunk!

To show the paintings at their best we mount each painting onto a slightly larger sheet of orange card and display them!  You may even decide to use a cotton tip instead of your fingers to dot the leaves!

Or you may even decide to create one like this it is totally up to you this ia a selection of some of my favourites!

Here is a very simple and basic video highlighting how to finger paint leaves on a tree using either your thumb or finger.  If you do not want to photocopy the trunk, you may decide to use your hand as the trunk, an example is shown above.

I’m really looking forward to viewing your magnificent work students!  Please parents REMEMBER TO SHARE!
