How to make chocolate play dough (Easter activity)

Recipe:
1 cup salt.
1/2 cup cocoa powder.
2 tbsps vegetable oil.
2 tbsps cream of tartar.
2 cups of boiling water.
4 drops of glycerine (optional extra for increased shine and stretch)

Method:

Combine all ingredients in a bowl.

Stir the vegetable oil.

Mix together

Stir in boiling water (adult only) and mix until combined.

When it has cooled a little knead it on a surface until it loses its stickiness and becomes smooth and stretchy. No residue should come off on your fingers. If it is still sticky add a little more flour, if too dry and crumbly add more water, a tablespoon at a time.

Week 2 activities:

When you have managed to complete your Easter chocolate playdough, try making coloured playdough. Be sure to use coloured food dye to make and create lots of fun colours to play with. Use the same instructions and materials except this time you are using coloured food dye.

(Follow materials and instructions listed above for Easter chocolate playdough).

*Please only use materials you already have at home and do not feel the need to purchase anything extra.

Easter Carton activity

Materials:
Egg carton
paint in yellow, pink, blue, green, purple, or your favourite spring colours
paintbrush
2 wiggly eyes per holder
¼ inch white pom poms, 1 per bunny holder
1 inch pom poms white or to match paint colours, 1 per bunny holder
2 yellow craft feathers per chick holder
scrap pieces of card stock in colours to coordinate with your paint
small scrap piece of orange card stock
bunny ear pattern

Instructions:
Step 1: Cut the egg carton apart, so you have individual egg cups.
Step 2: Paint the egg cups inside and out. Paint chick cups yellow. Paint the bunny cups in pink, blue, light green, purple, or any other fun spring colour. Set them aside to dry completely. If you’re doing this craft with the kids, you might want to complete this step ahead of time, or plan a fun activity while the egg cups are drying.

Step 3: To assemble the bunny egg cups: Print and cut out the bunny ear pattern. Trace and cut out two bunny ears in coordinating colours to match each of your bunny egg cups.
Step 4: Glue the bunny ears to the inside back of the cup, point side up, so they’ll stick out behind the egg when you add it to the cup.
Step 5: Add the wiggly eyes to the front of the cup, about ¼ inch down from the top.
Step 6: Add the ¼ inch white pom pom to the center front with a little glue for the bunny nose.
Step 7: Add a 1 inch pom pom to the center back of the egg cup for the bunny tail.

Step 8: Add an Easter egg to the cup, and you’re ready to display!
Step 9: To assemble the chick egg cups: Add the wiggly eyes to the front of the painted cup, about ¼ inch down from the top.
Step 10: Glue one feather about halfway down each side of the egg cup, so the feather is sticking straight out from the cup.
Step 11: Cut a ¼ inch square from the orange card stock for the chick cup’s beak. Cut one for each chick cup you’re making.
Step 12: Glue the beak to the center front of the egg cup.
Step 13: Add an Easter egg, and you’re ready to display

Easter paper bobble head bunny

Materials:

Ruler
Glue
ruler
Scissors
Coloured cardboard of your choice
Googly eyes
Mini pom poms
A hole punch
Felt pieces
Black wool for bunny whiskers.

Instructions:

Step 1: After gathering supplies, use the rotary cutter to make a 1 ½” x 11″ paper strip. Fold the ends of the paper strip towards the middle as pictured below. Glue the 2 flaps together to create a 3D half circle shape.

Step 2: Next, punch out 2 large hearts and 1 small heart. Use the petals paper punch to punch petals out of your main colored paper and pink (for the inner part of your bunny’s ears.) The petals paper punch has 3 different sizes, so you will have to punch each paper twice. Keep the large petals of your main colored paper, and the small petals of the pink paper.

Step 3: Glue the small pink petals onto the large petals to make ears for your bunny, cut 1 of your large hearts in half (you will end up with 2 tear dropped shapes), then use scissors to round the point of your other heart.

Step 4; To make the bunny’s feet, glue the teardrop paper shapes and the small heart to the flat bottom of your bunny’s body as pictured below. Cut a short paper strip and fold it like an accordion 4 times. Glue it to the front of the bunny’s body.
Step 5: Next, glue the bunny’s ears to the back of the rounded heart.

Step 6: Glue 2 wiggly eyes and a pom pom nose to the bunny’s face, then use a black felt tip pen to make whiskers. Glue the bunny’s head to the accordion fold paper strip.
Step 7: Last, glue a pom pom to the back of the bunny for the tail

Only use materials you already have at home and do not feel the need to purchase anything extra.
