Year 3 Week 6 Visual Arts Program
Learning Intention: For students to be able to use a simple sock puppet to create characters of their choice and then, communicate simple dialogue using one character or more than one character.
Success Criteria: If students are able to create a character and then communicate dialogue sharing with either teacher, parent or other member of their family.
This week in Visual Arts we will be looking at making and creating your very own sock puppet!
Here is an example that I have provided. After you have completed making your puppet, I would like you to film yourself assisting the puppet to talk using simple dialogue. An example might be, using two or three simple phrases, or making yet another puppet and getting to have a conversation between one another.
You will need:
a sock
buttons(or pennies or googly eyes)
a marker
something to attach stuff to your sock(hot glue works best, although thread and needle also works well)
paper(optional) for decoration.
Put the sock on your hand to get a feel for where the mouth will be. The mouth will be created by the crease between your fingers and thumb.
Once you have a feel for how you want to hold the puppet and mark where you want the eyes to go with the marker.
Glue or sew the eyes onto the puppet.
This will take your puppet from being a sock with eyes glues on to a completely personalized sock puppet.
Attach or draw in anything else you find necessary. I am not going to tell you how to do this because it is entirely up to you!
Just make sure to be creative and adventurous when creating your puppet.

The clip above uses simple examples and ideas on how to start the conversation for your puppet show. You can make it as simple or as involved as possible. I hope you find this useful!
