How to make OObleck Slime

Learning Intention: To understand how chemical reactions can change the state of certain ingredients.

Success Criteria: understanding how chemical reactions can change the state of certain ingredients.

We are learning and playing with simple kitchen science experiments.  Why kitchen science? because everything you need is already in your kitchen cupboards.  There are so many cool experiments to do at home with everyday household items.  This experiment is sure to develop a love for not only being creative in art, but also learning through science.  Have lots of fun kids and please remember to film, share and upload your work via Seesaw, email and/or google doc!

Ingredients:

2 cups cornstarch.

1 cup water.

Food coloring (optional)

Method:

1.Start with the water in a bowl add the cornstarch a bit at a time.

2.Keep stirring until it has a gooey consistency. You may want to use your hands.

3.When the oobleck is just right, slowly add food coloring, if you want. This can be a challenge to get it mixed properly.

4.Play with it.

Things to do with oobleck

  • Grab a handful and squeeze it. Let it ooze through your fingers.
  • Make a puddle and quickly drag your fingers through it.
  • Put it into a plastic container and shake it or quickly bump it against a table.
  • Jab at the oobleck and then slowly let your finger sink in.
  • Roll some oobleck into a ball. It becomes solid, but when you stop moving it, it will melt back into your hand.

Oobleck slime is so much fun to play with and very very messy too!  Please remember to use gloves and place lots of newspaper underneath the mixture to try keep the area as clean as possible!
